How to Keep your Heart Healthy

It’s Heart Health Month! Keeping our heart healthy and happy is crucial for our general health and now is a great time to be reminded of the few simple practices you can incorporate into your daily lifestyle to ensure your heart is happy and healthy.

Eat Heart Healthy

We’ve all heard of the phrase ‘5 a day’ when referring to fruits and vegetables but having 5 portions a day is an essential element to your diet when looking after your heart. Fruits and vegetables such as, apples, raspberries, carrots and broccoli, that are high in fibre can help lower cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease. In addition to this, a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can help keep your health healthy.

If you require additional support, the Bioglan Red Krill Oil, made of pure and sustainably sourced Krill Oil is a great source of Omega-3, giving you extra support to maintain your heart, eye and brain health. What’s better-A guaranteed no fishy aftertaste!

Make time for Breakfast

Being the first meal of the day makes it a very important one, and a nutritious breakfast, can help you maintain a healthy diet and weight, contributing to your overall heart health.

Try to incorporate one of the following food groups into your breakfast everyday – wholegrains, lean protein sources, low-fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables.

Get Moving

Keeping your body moving helps to boost circulation and improve heart health. Aim for at least 150 minutes of intense to moderate activity a week! This can be split into a 30 minute walk every lunchtime during the week, or for a physical activity to enjoy over the weekend. Why not try a bike ride?

However, if an intense form of physical activity isn’t your preferred choice, swap this out for a Yoga session which will help to stretch out any stress from the day relieving your heart of any additional strain.

If your job involves sitting at a desk at home or in an office space, don’t forget to take a regular break for a short walk or take the stairs back to your desk!

Rest

We all know that sleep is important for general health, and prioritising at least 7-8 hours of rest is vital for your heart health. If you find it difficult to fall asleep, give a night routine a go. Incorporating some of your favourite self-care rituals before bed can help put your mind at ease. Here are some of our favourite night routine practices:

  • Warm shower with your favourite scented soap
  • Hot bubble bath
  • Bedtime tea
  • Stretch, breathe and relax
  • Meditation
  • Read a book
  • Avoid looking at your phone or watching TV

Stat-Guard

For those experiencing problems with their heart and are taking statins, the
Bioglan Stat-Guard nutritional supplement combines three essential nutrients: Vitamin E,
Zinc and CoQ10 which can often be depleted by statins. This unique formulation also contains Magnesium and Vitamin B which helps to contribute to normal energy production, muscle function and your overall heart health.
