Tips to Keep a Healthy Gut Whilst Travelling

Travelling can wreak havoc with our gut health. With the changes in time-zones, eating different foods, and potentially over-eating, it’s no surprise that many of us are susceptible to tummy troubles whilst on holiday. However, there are some tips and tricks you can put in place to ensure that you keep your tummy happy whilst away:

1. Drink plenty of water

Dehydration can be a major cause of digestive health issues, including constipation. Make sure to keep on top of your water intake, especially if you are somewhere hot. Be sure to find out if the water is safe to drink before downing a glass of the local tap water.

2. Eat lots of fibre

Help keep your bowels moving regularly by eating plenty of fibre. When you’re on holiday you want to treat yourself, but make sure to put nutritious foods like vegetables, fruits, beans, seeds, and nuts into your body too.

3. Stay active

Help your digestion along by keeping your body moving. Make the most of exploring a new place on foot, whilst also helping your gut to function normally. Be sure to keep this in mind if sitting for long periods on flights. Walking up and down the plane and doing gentle stretches can be beneficial.

4. Pack your probiotics

Travelling can affect the healthy balance of bacteria in our gut due to the change in diet, sleeping patterns and stress. You can help to rebalance the friendly bacteria in your gut by taking a high-strength live bacteria supplement, such as our Biotic Balance Super Strength, before, during and after your trip.

5. Think before you eat

It can be tempting to dive in and try everything that’s on offer when it comes to food on holiday but take a second to assess what you are about to eat. If food looks undercooked, doesn’t smell or look right, or has been sitting around a while it may not be worth the risk of a bad tummy.
